Agenda Item:Encouraging member states to take global action on climate change and its impacts
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers (ICEM) stands as a specialized body within the OIC framework, dedicated to humanitarian relief, disaster response, and emergency assistance across the Muslim world and beyond. Established to strengthen solidarity among member states in times of crisis, the committee coordinates efforts in providing medical aid, food supplies, shelter, and other essential services to populations affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts, and humanitarian emergencies.
Comprising representatives from OIC member states and working in close cooperation with international humanitarian organizations, the ICEM serves as a vital mechanism for mobilizing resources, harmonizing relief operations, and ensuring timely assistance to those in need. Its work reflects the OIC’s broader mission of promoting human dignity, alleviating suffering, and fostering resilience in vulnerable communities.
By upholding the principles of compassion and solidarity rooted in Islamic values, the ICEM not only addresses immediate humanitarian challenges but also contributes to long-term capacity building and disaster preparedness in member states. In doing so, it embodies the OIC’s commitment to humanitarian diplomacy and collective action, ensuring that the Muslim world stands united in the face of adversity.
